Botox and Fillers – How Long to Wait?

Botulinum Toxin

Also known as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, or Botulinum Toxin Type A

Botulinum toxin (Type A) is a cosmetic injection that blocks the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. This effect relaxes and smooths the look of lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive movements on the face—most commonly, between the brows, crows-feet around the eyes, and horizontal forehead creases. Botulinum toxin is also used cosmetically to balance facial asymmetry and relax tight neck bands, as well as medically to reduce perspiration and to treat migraine headaches and muscle spasticity.

Fillers

Also known as dermal fillers and soft tissue fillers

Fillers are a type of minimally invasive aesthetic medicine used to add volume, alter the contours of the face, and fill in wrinkles. Common areas to inject fillers are in the face, neck, and hands, resulting in a fuller, smoother and more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are among the most popular aesthetic procedures because they carry immediate results, very few risks and little recovery time.

Injectables and Permanent Cosmetics

  • Any permanent cosmetic procedure is fine before having Botox or injectables.
  • If the client has had either a neurotoxin or filler injectable, they should wait at least 2-4 weeks before having a permanent cosmetic treatment.
  • The manipulation of the skin has a small potential for affecting the outcome and lasting of your injection site.
  • Inhibits blood flow and nutrients in the area that has been injected. If you are treating an area where the client received Botox injections, such as the eyebrows for example.
  • Schedule treatment for when majority of Botox has worn off. Ensure client refrains from receiving Botox until treatment plan is completed and fully healed.
  • Previous dermal fillers in treatment area can trigger swelling and filler will dissolve at a quicker rate.
  • Please wait 4 weeks before and after treatment for dermal fillers.
